Testing my resolution!

Hello from Narnia. Sorry I mean Yorkshire.
.
Gosh! I think its working already and that's down to you. Yes, YOU!
My New Years resolution I mean.
.
WOW! Thank you so much for your support and the fantastic response to yesterdays post.
I nearly fell at the first hurdle today, but felt sooooooo bad that I would be letting you all down after all of your kind comments that I dragged myself up to the attic and sat in front of my sewing machine. It was 9.15pm and I really wanted to go downstairs and sit in front of the fire with the rest of the family but your words were whispering to me.
And. I'm sooooo glad they did.
Here are today's offerings. I have to be honest here and say that I was just going to do a couple of little scribbles so that I was keeping my word about the 2o minutes sewing a day thing. Just to keep you all quiet, but this first little scribble lead me to...

this little doodle. Which made me smile and feel a little bit pleased, so this lead me to...

something a little bit more adventurous. Yes I know its not great but that's not important. Remember yesterdays post about the 'creating, creates creativity'. Well that's just what happened (in a very tiny way) because I felt bad at nearly missing a day sewing, all of your comments forced me to go all be it halfheartedly to the sewing machine, I started stitching something mundane and easy for me, just to keep all of you happy, but ended up doing a little bit more and pleasing myself!
(Well done if you're still with me and understood all of that.)
.
So you see it works! (little smug smile here)
.
Now I'm sure there were about 7 or 8 of you who said you might join me with this daily sewing malarkey. Yes there was! You know who you are but just to remind you
Gerry
Lynnie
KC's Court
Bertie
Twiglet
Sue
and not forgetting Lyn and her sketch book.
.
Hmmmmm... how's it going girls? Have any of you had a go yet? Hmmm?
.

Next time I'll show you what I made to keep my hands busy and out of the chocolate tin over Christmas. (it didn't work, I'm a woman I can do two things at once!)

Thanks for the support

love Fi x

New Years Resolution

New Years Resolutions.
Nope. Never make them.
Except this year.
This year I resolve to sew at least a little every day.
.
I once read that people who want to become creative writers should keep a note pad at their bedside and every morning as soon as they wake, they should write for 20 minutes. It doesn't matter what they write. It can be complete rubbish, no matter, no one else need see it. It just helps to get into the rhythm and habit and I suppose eventually it will help your creativity flow.
Well who am I to argue?
.
I spend far too much time wondering what I should sew, or planning and working out how to make something. Choosing fabrics, matching trims, finding threads, searching for ideas. All this is not actually doing! Often I end up not actually making anything.
.
So every day I will have my 20 minutes of sewing.
.
I hope it works.
.
Only time will tell.
.
Surely creating, creates creativity.
.
(Gosh! That was a bit deep for me!)
.
Wish me luck.

Hello Fresh New Year

Hello and Happy New Year.
Yes the Christmas festivities are over and done with and a lovely time was had by all.
The new year has arrived and I feel very positive. I'm certainly looking forward to 2010 and hoping for the best.
.
The photos below are from New Years Day. A brisk bracing walk in the snow.
We had guests staying over for new year

which made it all the more fun.

Plenty of snowy hills for sledging here in the North.
This one was the teens choice. Maybe it was the risk of ending up in the stream at the bottom that gave it the edge!

Plenty of squeeze gates too. So named because they are veeeeery narrow and you have to squeeze through them. The idea being that sheep don't do squeezing.

Neither does our guests dog!

A rather large Golden Doodle!
Hmmm! One too many treats me thinks.

Aaaaah....that's more like it.

Travel in style.

And today,

Still lots of the white stuff.
I hope you'll pop back now and again throughout 2010.
I'd love to hear from you.
Till next time.

Enough snow.

Brrrrrr...I've had enough snow now thank you.

Igloos have been built

and snowmen

we've measured how many inches (that would be 8 inches)

and admired it's beauty

and now I would like it to go away.

Wintery Walk

Hello from the frozen North.
It's certainly feeling Festive around these parts.
I've been making a special Christmas card for my parents.

something simple.

What do you think?

We woke this morning to a covering of snow. This is the view from the attic window.
.
After work I popped in here
Peeping out of the cute, little window in the kitchen I could see the snow was starting to fall again. The Christmas tree looks lovely in the corner between the window and the fireplace.

Hmmm. Look it's still snowing.
After a lovely visit sitting for far longer than I should have in front of the open fire in the shop, I forced myself to venture back outside.

And because you asked to see inside our little Sweet Shop, I popped inside as I passed and asked if I could take a photo.
.
Are you ready?
.
I'm sure you'll like it
.
Be prepared, you'll want to come and visit
.

WOW! Look at that. This picture doesn't do it justice. There are fairy lights and tinsel around the shelves. Everything you could possible want from a sweet shop. Rows and rows of sweety jars. Chocolates, mints, toffees, liquorice root, ice-cream, marshmallows. You name it and I bet they have it.

Back outside and I pass Christmas trees and wreaths stacked up ready for the festive season.

The snow is starting to fall more heavily now. Up the steps to the....

empty car park. Gosh it's coming down now! Usually I can see hills in the distance.

After I get home and swap my full shopping bag for sneaky dog, I head back out onto the field. Here the snow is deep and easily comes over my ankles.

It's getting on now. Nearly time for the school bus.

As you can see the school bus was a little late. 25 minutes to be exact, even sneaky dog was fed up and cold. I must admit I was getting a little worried. The 16 mile journey from school is quite exposed in places and while I was waiting I watched several cars sliding and skidding around. If it keeps on snowing tonight the driver won't try and get through tomorrow. Looks like the school Christmas holiday will be starting a day early for us! YAY!

Till next time.

It's beginning to look a lot like ...

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Tra-la-laaa.
Hello all. There's no getting away from it. It's well on it's way! Christmas!
This is our local sweet shop window looking fantastically festive. I tried to take a picture inside but it was far too busy. It's a proper old fashioned sweet shop inside. Rows and rows of jars of sweets; and the walls are covered with vintage sweety and chocolate advertising signs.

.
Back home there has been a fair amount of this going on...
wrapping and decorating.

It takes me ages to wrap each gift, but that's because I like to faff around choosing pretty ribbons and making my own gift tags.

Gift tags haven't been the only things I've been making....

Yes. The Christmas cake has been made.

Mmmmm. Smells wonderful.

Tastes quite good too!
Well you can't eat every thing on one day can you?
Really we're not that bad; we're visiting my parents for Christmas so it's ok for us to eat some of our cake now - we'll probably have seen enough Christmas cake by the time we come home again. Well that's our excuse anyway.
.
Thank you to Anne M. (you know who you are) The fabric has arrived, and it is lovely thank you for thinking of me.
Till next time.
