Well it's happened. I knew I wouldn't be able to resist for long.
So I gave in a graciously as I could. I purchased six colours that I hope will look a bit retroish, a'la Cath Kidston. I could of course use up some of my wool stash.
I've been seduced by all your crochet blankets. I could resist no longer.
I WANT TO MAKE ONE TOO!
Ripples, granny squares, Babette's, you name it; I've been watching all your blankets grow. Ripple by ripple. square by square. Now I want in!
Let me at all that woolly, hooky, goodness.
I'm not exactly new to crochet blankets. My mum and dad are both able to crochet, and for as long as I can remember as a child, we always had a special crochet blanket that was brought out for us to snuggle under on the sofa when we were ill. As soon as I married and had a home of my own, I asked my dad to make me a 'sick blanket', and he did. Here it is; made from left over balls of wool. Each colour change reminds you of a hand knitted jumper or cardi you or someone else in your family once had.
Then a couple of months ago when I was still fighting off the urge to start one of my own, I bought this one from a table top sale at the local market hall.
Mmmmh! Cosy and snuggly.
But... the urge was still there.
So I gave in a graciously as I could. I purchased six colours that I hope will look a bit retroish, a'la Cath Kidston. I could of course use up some of my wool stash.
But I really want to like it when it's finished, not have to hide it in the stair cupboard!
So here it is.
The start of my granny square blanket.
One more thing I want to add; Jane at Posy and Lucy at Attic24 you are both the main culprits, it's you two that have got me hooked!
Easily lead, that's me!

I have just managed to get my hands on a load of wool from the scrapstore, a local shop was chucking it out and I have a whole heap of different colours, I am crochetting like a woman possesed, this is also down to everyone on blog..... I love your colours and I think I will endeavour to make a proper granny square blanket but I just cant get zig zag to work properly....
good luck and I can't wait to see the finished article...
Lovely colours. What kind of wool is it?
Good luck with the granny square blanket. I have dozens of granny squares in my cupboard but never got around to stitching them all together!
I love the colours you have chosen. The one and only blanket I made took me over 10 years - I started it when I was about 9 and finished it when I was about 20! I hope yours doesn't take you so long. My blanket is also known in our house as "the sick blanket" it always came out when the kids were ill.
Hi Fiona, thanks for your lovely comment. I'd love to help out but I still have about another 27,000 photo's myself still to scrap, lol! Your granny squares look great. I rememeber doing these myself many years ago but nothing ever came of them! I wouldn't know where to start these days. I keep meaning to try as I'd love to do some flowers for my cards. I even borrowed a book from Lesley on how to crochet. One day I'll maybe look at it and pick up a needle!!
